Carlos Alcaraz is yet to defeat his biggest rival at Wimbledon after losing to Jannik Sinner in the 2025 Wimbledon men’s singles final.
The Spaniard simply could not deal with Sinner’s excellent baseline play and superb speed from corner to corner.
However, the loss did not prevent an always-polite Alcaraz from congratulating his long-term rival on social media after the contest.
This was not the first time Carlos Alcaraz has lost to Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon. Back in 2022, the Italian also won in four sets, foreshadowing Sunday’s victory.

After that match in 2022, Alcaraz made a prediction about Sinner about their future time ‘together’ in the sport.
Carlos Alcaraz predicted he would have a ‘great rivalry’ with Jannik Sinner in 2022
In 2022, Alcaraz and Sinner met in the fourth round of Wimbledon, which was just their second meeting on the ATP Tour after their first encounter at the Paris Masters in 2021.
That day, Sinner was the victor, winning by a scoreline of 6-1 6-4 6-7 6-3.
After the match, Alcaraz was full of praise for the future world number one, while detailing his ‘hope’ for the future.
During the press conference, one journalist asked: “Do you think you and Jannik could be rivals for the next 10, 15 years in this sport?”
He said: “Hope so!

“Well, I’m going to try to be one of the best tennis players in the world for many years and obviously Jannik is one of the best tennis players in the world as well and for sure he’s going to be in the top four for many years and I’m going to say I hope to have a good rivalry with him.
“We hope to fight for the best tournaments in the world and the best moments in the world together.”
Jannik Sinner breaks five-match losing streak to Carlos Alcaraz
In recent memory, the rivalry between the sport’s two best players had been rather one-sided before Sunday’s contest, with Alcaraz winning all five contests before the 2025 Wimbledon final.
Alcaraz had defeated Sinner at Indian Wells 2024, French Open 2024, Beijing 2024 and Rome 2025, before snatching victory from the jaws of defeat in the 2025 French Open final.
Despite the heartbreaking loss in Paris, the world number one held his nerve to secure a first Wimbledon title – the first Italian Wimbledon title-holder in history.
The two players will now move forward to the American hard-court swing and US Open, where they will likely do battle again for another Grand Slam title.
