Super Bright has been something of a stalwart in Nathan Doyleâs stable and while her racing days are numbered heâd like to think she can show at Warwick Farm on Wednesday that thereâs more wins in store before time is called.
The seven-year-old mare was a winner at Canterbury in January and with the stronger autumn carnival racing around she resurfaces for what could well be her final preparation in the Catanachâs Jewellers Handicap (1100m).
With six wins from 41 starts and almost $400,000 in prizemoney, Doyle said sheâs been a great horse for the stable and now is the right time for her to be in work.
âSheâs been around a while and sheâs been as honest as ever for the owners,âŗâŖ Doyle said.
âSheâs fit and well and sound and sheâs enjoying her racing but the day she tells us sheâs not she will be retired.
âWe gave her a little bit of a let up after her last start in planning to target off season winter racing.
âShe appreciates getting her toe in so we thought thatâd be the right plan.â
Doyle said Super Bright has freshened up since her last start fourth, beaten half a length, at Canterbury at the end of February and while sheâs more effective over 1200m heâd expect her to be competitive.
âSheâs been plagued by bad barriers, when she draws well you can ride her a pair closer which is vital with her,âŗâŖ he said.
âA good gate helps and we should be able to ride her just behind the speed.
âIt seems the right race, 1100m is probably short of her best but she has had the one soft trial and she can sprint well fresh.â
Rush Attack will be having his second run since last June and his first for a month when Doyle rolls the dice in the Exceedence @ Vinery Stud Handicap (1300m).
The Newcastle trainer said heâs been waiting for the gelding to find the right scenario to improve on his first-up run but hasnât been handed any favours so he has to go to the races and try his luck.
âIâve scratched him twice because heâs drawn badly and heâs drawn wider,âŗâŖ he said.
âYou canât sit at home in the box forever. Itâs not ideal but his first-up run was good.
âHe sits in that 72 bracket and weâre just trying to find the right races for him and build him up.â
