Jalen Hurts briefly exited the Philadelphia Eagles’ Week 3 matchup against the Chicago Bears after taking a hard hit during the second quarter.
The Eagles quarterback was scrambling near the sideline when he was hit by Chicago defenders.
Hurts remained on the turf briefly after the play before heading to the medical tent, where he underwent a concussion evaluation following the late hit.
A short time later, ESPN cameras showed Hurts briefly looking out from the Eagles’ blue medical tent, while Andy Dalton stayed under center for the remainder of Philadelphia’s possession.
The 28-year-old was sidelined for four plays as backup Andy Dalton took over at quarterback.
Before his brief exit, Hurts had completed 5 of 7 attempts for 46 yards without a touchdown or interception, posting an 89.0 passer rating with 1:52 left in the second quarter.
Philadelphia later confirmed that Hurts had passed his evaluation and was cleared to retumrn to the game.
“QB Jalen Hurts was evaluated for a concussion and cleared to return,” the Eagles tweeted on X.
He returned to the field as Philadelphia played out the final minutes of the first half in Chicago.
With Hurts sidelined in the medical tent, the Eagles failed to capitalize on a goal-line opportunity from the one-yard line. Dalton then threw an interception, bringing an end to Philadelphia’s scoring chance.
Had Hurts remained on the field, the Eagles likely would have relied on their tush push in that situation, giving them a strong opportunity to finish the drive with a touchdown.
It proved to be a significant missed chance for Philadelphia to generate some momentum in a first half where the Eagles had struggled to find any.
Hurts was hit by Bears linebacker D’Marco Jackson near the sideline after escaping pressure. Jackson was penalized for unnecessary roughness, but the call was offset by a holding penalty against Eagles offensive lineman Lane Johnson.
