Hermann, Fortuin and Jansen lead Proteas to 48-run victory after Zimbabwe collapse
WINDHOEK: Jordan Hermann struck a rapid half-century before Bjorn Fortuin and Duan Jansen claimed three wickets apiece as South Africa defeated Zimbabwe by 48 runs to win the T20I Tri-Series in Windhoek on Sunday.
South Africa posted 205-5 after deciding to bat first, with Hermann leading the charge with an explosive 53 from 29 balls.
Zimbabwe, chasing 206 for victory, were folded for 157 after being reduced at one stage to 61-7 with Brad Evans hammering an explosive 56 not out.
Evans, batting at number eight, hit four sixes and four fours. He reached his half-century from only 29 deliveries and added 52 runs for the ninth wicket with Kundal Matigimu, who made 19 from 11 balls with two sixes.
Zimbabwe were eventually bowled out in 18 overs.
Fortuin, the left-arm orthodox spinner, finished with 3-24, while Jansen took 3-38. Eathan Bosch also made a significant contribution with 2-22, striking early as South Africa maintained pressure throughout the innings.
Sikandar Raza, Zimbabwe’s experienced all-rounder, struggled to make an impact, scoring 16 from 18 balls with one six.
Earlier, Hermann set the tone for South Africa’s innings with a fearless display of strokeplay. He struck eight fours and six sixes in his 53 as the Proteas put Zimbabwe’s bowlers under sustained pressure.
Hermann shared an opening stand of 84 from 47 balls with Connor Esterhuizen, who contributed 32 from 23 deliveries, including three fours and two sixes.
Hermann brought in his fifty off 24 balls.
Dewald Brevis continued the momentum with 32 from 23 balls, hitting two sixes and two fours, while Rubin Hermann provided a late boost with a brisk 27 from 16 deliveries.
Zimbabwe’s bowlers struggled to contain South Africa’s aggressive batting, but Evans’ late assault ensured the chase remained competitive before Fortuin and Jansen completed a convincing victory.
The win gave South Africa the T20I Tri-Series title after a dominant all-round performance in the final.
