Former India player Ajay Jadeja was all praises for Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill after the 25-year-old guided his team to a 38-run victory over the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday. Gill had scored a 38-ball 76 which helped GT post 224, a target which was too steep to climb for SRH.
“It’s business as usual with Shubman Gill because this man is just so consistent. We have a Virat Kohli in our country, but Gill is no less. If you look at the consistency with which he scores—it’s similar in style. They don’t take unnecessary risks; they wait for the bowler to make a mistake. Unless absolutely required, you rarely see them throw their wicket away,” Jadeja said on JioHotstar.

“Skill-wise, Gill is outstanding. He peppered the offside beautifully today with those cover drives. What stood out were those three big hits—one over mid-wicket off Pat Cummins and another off the other pacer. That was a new element today. Otherwise, he remains rock solid,” he added.

After the match, Gill said the understanding of playing on tricky surfaces had helped the top-three including himself, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler to do well in the IPL this season. The trio has scored the bulk of the runs for GT who are on course to make the play-offs. It was no different on Friday as the top-order took the home side to 224 for six which the bowlers could comfortably defend against Sunrisers Hyderabad. GT also played just 22 dot balls in 20 overs.
“Didn’t plan that (22 dot balls), idea was to continue to play like we have. Black soil (pitches), we’ve seen it’s not easy to hit sixes. But the way our top order plays, we know how to keep the scoreboard ticking. We’ve never had the conversation for one of the top-three to always be there at the end. We’re just eager to do our best,” said Gill at the post match presentation.
