Key events
82 min: From the free-kick, Bournemouth half-clear and Sunderland recycle the ball. Ballard scrambles the ball into the net with a header from close range but his effort is rulked out for offside.
80 min: Senesi fouls Angulo, obstructing his run. Free-kick for Sunderland wide on the left. Bournemouth double-substitution: Enes Unal and Amine Adli on for Kroupi and Tavernier. Having taken ther captain’s armband from Brooks, Tavernier hands it on to Ryan Christie.
79 min: There’s a break in play while Evanilson receives treatment for an injury. He’s OK to carry on.
78 min: Enzo Le Fee takes a corner for Sunderland. His inswinger is met by the unmarked Ballard, who skims his header across the face of goal and wide. It was a great chance and I fully expected him to bury that.
77 min: A Noah Sadiki ball over the top ricochets off the back of Jimenez as he runs back towards his ownb goal. Good defending, albeit totally unwitting defending .
75 min: Yep, it was for time-wasting. A wild Truffart cross from the left sails high over the Sunderland cross-bar. Sunderland substitution: Nilson Angulo comes on for Granit Xhaka, who doesn’t want to leave the pitch but is nursing a sore ankle following that challenge from Tyler Adams.
73 min: Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs is booked. I think it’s for time-wasting.
72 min: Bournemouth ramp up the pressure. Moments after Kroupi had come close to connecting with a Jimenez pull-back, Alex Scott sends a shot from distance drifting high and wide.
70 min: Alejandro Jimenez unleashes a low shot from distance that fizzes just wide of the right post. It wasn’t too far away but I think Roefs had it covered.
69 min: Sunderland substitution: Bertrand Traore on for Chemsdine Talbi. It’s his first appearance since Sunderland beat Newcastle in mid-December.
68 min: Robin Roefs has been little short of outstanding in goal for Sunderland this season but he was badly caught out in the build-up to that goal by a curled Marcus Tavernier cross of the very highest quality. It was a wonderful assist.
The goal stands!!! There was a hint of handball about that Evanilson header which was less than clean but it would have been extremely harsh, bordering on cruel, for VAR to recommend ruling it out. It’s all square at the Vitality Stadium.
GOAL! Bournemouth 1-1 Sunderland (Evanilson 64)
Evanilson scores! Marcus Tavernier sends an inviting cross into the Sunderland penalty area, luring Roefs off his line. The goalkeeper misjudges the flight of the ball and Evanilson leaps to steer the ball home with a combination of head, shoulder and – dare I say it –arm?
63 min: The past 15 minutes have been extremely scrappy, a state of affairs that will suit Sunderlan … uh-oh! Bournemouth have equalised!
62 min: Bournemouth substitution: Ryan Christie replaces Tyler Adams in what is probably a wise move by Andoni Iraola. The American was a red card waiting to happen.
60 min: VAR seem to have agreed that while Adams’ challenge was reckless, it was mitigated by the shove he got from Diarra. That seems fair enough although Xhaka begged to differ with the referee once he’d returned to his feet.
58 min: Xhaka goes down under a scything challenge from Tyler Adams and repeatedly slaps the turf in pain. Adams is claiming he got a shove in the back from Diarra, which increased the velocity of his challenge. He gets booked and I think he’s lucky not to get a red. That was a nasty challenge and he caught Xhaka’s ankle.
57 min: To the other side of the pitch, where Trai Hume takes a Sunderland throw-in, with his head coach standing just a couple of metres behind him. It’s all going on at the the Vitality Stadium!!!
55 min: Sunderland win a throw-in just inside the Bournemouth half, which Geertruida takes. Moments later, they win another. There’s not a lot else of note to report in the early stages of this second half.
53 min: Sunderland’s fans are in fine voice and have been serenading their team’s goalscorer, Eliezer Mayenda with his own song. Altogether now: “My name’s Eliezer Mayenda, I hate Sam Fender, I play up front for Sunlun!”
51 min: Tavernier stretches out a leg to hook a cross from deep back across the Sunderland penalty area but there’s nobody on hand in a black and red shirt to take advantage.
51 min: James Hill takes a long throw into the opposition penalty area from near the corner flag but Sunderland are able to clear their lines.
49 min: Adams and Jimenez combine out on the right flank before working the ball inside to Senesi. He sends a high ball looping into the Sunderland penalty area, where Roefs leaps to claim under pressure from Evanilson.
47 min: Enzo Le Fee picks out a Diarra run in behind the Bournemouth defence. The Senegal international finds himself one on one with Petrovic and forces the Bournemouth goalkeeper into a good save. He should have scored!
47 min: Chemsdine Talbi curls a cross into the Bournemouth penalty from the left but his delivery is far too close to Petrovic, who gathers with a minimum of fuss.
Second half: Bournemouth 0-1 Sunderland
46 min: Play resumes and Bournemouth have made a change, bringing on Evanilson for David Brooks.
Half-time: Bournemouth 0-1 Sunderland
A fairly even match reaches half-time with Sunderland in front courtesy of an Eliezer Mayenda tap-in after excellent work from Dan Ballard and Habib Diarra. Both sides have had decent penalty appeals turned down, with the shout going against Sunderland for a blatant Jimenez shove on Le Fee being the more egregious. Bournemouth have passed up a couple of half-decent opportunities to equalise and Sunderland are just about worth their lead.
45+2 min: Jimenez advances up the inside left and plays the ball wide to Rayan again. He drills in a low cross from the byline but Kroupi is unable to steer the ball on target from a very tight angle. It’s half-time.
45 min: Jimenez sprays the ball wide for Rayan and Bournemouth win a corner. Brooks’ inswinger from the left is headed back towards him by a Sunderland defender.
43 min: Bournemouth win a free-kick wide on the left. Truffart curls the ball towards Rayan, who wins the header and sends the ball acrossd the face of goal. It only meets the head of Mayenda and Roefs tidies up.
41 min: Enzo Le Fee curls a corner towards the near post, where Alex Scott hoofs it clear. It would be fair to say that Sunderland are not making the most of their set-piece opportunities so far this afternoon.
39 min: David Brooks curls a cross from the left into the Sunderland penalty area but is unable to pick out Eli Kroupi, who is beaten by the bounce of the ball at the far post.
36 min: Bournemouth have a penalty appeal of their own turned down as Granit Xhaka appears to wrestle Rayan to the ground at a James Hill long-throw. I’ve seen them given but they usually aren’t.
35 min: Marcus Tavernier curls a free-kick from just outside the penalty area around the outside of the defensive wall and on target. Roefs punches it away. Noah Sadiki was booked for kicking the ball away after Geertruida had fouled Tyler Adams to concede the free-kick.
32 min: With the ball at his feet way outside his penalty area, Roefs is pressed hard by Kroupi and both men go to ground. Bournemouth’s players appeal somewhat optimistically for a red card, Sunderland get a free-kick.
31 min: Alex Scott pulls a low shot from a just outside the Sunderland penalty area a couple of feet wide of the upright. It was a fairly weak effort, which I think Roefs would have dealt with.
29 min: Had Scott managed to beat Roefs with that effort, Bournemouth’s equaliser would have been a near replica of Sunderland’s opener.
28 min: Roefs spills a Tavernier shot from distance and the ball breaks towards Alex Scott. The Sunderland goalkeeper is able to smother the follow-up shot before one of his defenders hacks the ball clear.
