John McEnroe has made a new prediction for who he thinks could now win the French Open.
After all, he had just witnessed a really impressive performance on Suzanne-Lenglen, clearly cementing what he had already thought.
But, to see Jack Draper put Joao Fonseca to the sword in the way that he did outlined a merciless player who must have that cutting edge needed to challenge for majors.
The American had further kind words to say about the Brit before making his bold new prediction.
John McEnroe makes new French Open prediction
Speaking live on TNT Sports’ US coverage, McEnroe was left a little frustrated with Fonseca’s lack of effort at times.
After all, there were many occasions, particularly at the latter stages of the match, where he just flat out didn’t bother running for Draper’s drop shots.
This left the American incensed, although he did concede that such a demotivated opponent could only be down to the Brit’s relentlessness.
McEnroe admitted: ‘If I had to pick a third to compete it’d have to be him [Draper], above [Holger] Rune for example.
‘It’s hard to believe that before this year watching him that he had never won a match here. He looks completely comfortable on this surface.
‘In his [Fonseca’s] defence, Draper’s looked really good. He’s playing an extremely intelligent match. Determined to beat up on this guy.’
Jack Draper was so dominant against Joao Fonseca
And beat up on the teenager he did, with Draper relentless in his pursuit of his opponent.
He did not buy into all the hype around Fonseca, silencing whatever Brazilian presence there was in the Suzanne-Lenglen crowd with bruising groundstrokes and timely big serves.
The 18-year-old ended up hitting 38 unforced errors, just forced into positions on the court where he felt he had no other option but to go for broke.
Meanwhile, Draper won a mammoth 93% of points behind his first serve, which he got into play 59% of the time.

These mark solid figures that back up his credentials to challenge for the title.
Should he bypass Alexander Bublik in the fourth round of the French Open, Jannik Sinner, arguably the biggest challenge in tennis at the moment, will be sure to challenge McEnroe’s claim.
